Medicare Enrollment Information


Special Election Periods


You may choose a Part C or Part D plan at other times of the year if the person you’re caring for meets one of the below requirements.

  • When you first become eligible for Medicare
  • If you are on both Medicare and Medicaid
  • If your current plan is terminated
  • If you move to a community not served by your current plan

Medicare Annual Election Period

Except under special circumstances, you may only choose or change a Part C or Part D plan each fall, during the Medicare Annual Election Period.

Plan Information Sent On Enrollment Period Begins Enrollment Period Ends

The choices you make during the Annual Election Period will take effect on January 1 of the upcoming year.

Medicare Open Enrollment Period

January 1-March 31

If you are in a Medicare Advantage Plan (with or without drug coverage), you can switch to another Medicare Advantage Plan (with or without drug coverage). If you are in a Medicare Advantage Plan, you can disenroll and return to Original Medicare. If you choose to do so, you'll be able to join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan.
